We were young
I thought I knew what love was
Turns out I did
I did love you
But you don’t always stay in love with the first one
You move on
It was supposed to be you
My first kiss
Not just the ones I dreamt up
My first break of curfew
Was supposed to be with you
While we were out doing something fun and being young
You were supposed to be my shoulder to cry on
Through all of the troubles of my teenage years
Holding me tightly
But it wasn’t you
Something happened and we were no longer us
You were you, and I was me
And despite everything you were supposed to be
You weren’t
But at least I have the memories
